I, too, used the banners and what I got was so much spam I am still
filtering it to this day. When I sign a guestbook I use a redirect
email address. I check that email box every few days but I still get
hit hard with spam which one time I never got.
I believe the worse offender was the click emails and yes, the banner
bars. Often it crashed my computer a dozen times and most often never
registered .. the light was always red. I deleted every trace of them
and hope in time the spam will cease.
Thanks for this great piece. If you had published it a year ago, I
would not have had to close one of my primary email addresses. *smile*
Now I play games at iwin and have won 4 nice gifts, some cash - about
$116 and it's fun!

Dear Sir, we owe them a lot.I was a child of ll yrs when the war started.I was bombed out of our home twice when living in the south of England.We moved to North Wales not far from Burton Wood camp where many of your service men were stationed. Hello,
I wasn't to sure where I should respond to your Daily internet article for Jan 14th.
I have been there. Resently. I have only been on the computer for one year wait it hasn't been a year yet. But if you know how much info. you can receive in a year. Well, now I have nothing !!! NOTHING....I did not backup my stuff up. I had things written down but now in a note book. When I did write things down my boyfriend said " what are you doing. Your on a computer you don't need to write things down, he said" So of course I stopped. So I started saving things in my NOTE PAD on my computer. They are all GONE.
When the computer crashes everything goes with it.
EVERYTHING!!!
Things I have made or even things that were made for me are gone!!!
Your article made so much sence . I wish I would have received this a week ago. I am still frustrated at all of this cause now I have to start all over, and I mean all over. I had awards given to me that I yet need to get on my pages , guess they won't be on my page, I no longer have them. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! this makes me sick.
I also took pictures of my children with a digital camera. Guess what those are gone too. I will never see them again. Why, cause I never saved them to a disk. A digital camera is cool and all but if you don't back up your pics on a disk you won't ever see them again.
If you think this will never happen to you, guess again. I thought it would never happen to me
and it did. Now that I am getting back on the net and searching over and over for the things I have lost, as of 1/13/2001, I now have a backup disk. hehe
So go ahead computer CRASH CRASH again. I have most of my stuff saved.
Thank you for the article on saving your stuff. Cause I have learned a very important lesson. If you want to keep what you have make sure you back it up.
Sorry to keep going on and on, I am still venting.
This is so hard when I sit here and realize that more and more stuff I had is GONE!!
Its worth the time to save everything to a disk.
I will never let it get the best of me again.

Hi Richard!
This is a wonderful article! It gives us something to think about!
I know in the group messages, I tend to make up my own spelling to some
words, and have fun with others, but that is for the benefit of enjoyment
here in the group. But when it comes time to write a serious letter to
another person, or especially to a company regarding business, I strive to
make sure the message is as professional as possible.
It is fun though to chat in MSN, I don't capitalize or use punctuation
whatsoever! There you can just let your hair down and be totally off-base in
spelling and other areas! Kind of takes the pressure off of having to be so
prim and proper!!
The part of this letter, talking about your wife, was really cute! With my
husband, it is not his words, but rather his spelling that makes me cringe!
But, like I tell him, "hukked on fonix werkt fer you"!!
Thanks for sharing this with us. You do bring up a very good point.
I have become a fan of yours kind sir! You have a fantastic site, and I go there just about daily now. Thank you so much for all the work you do, and the variety of subjects is just wonderful. I have learned much thanks to you, and I like to try to learn something new each day, so your site is a good tool in which to accomplish that goal!

I am the person in the second picture, the "guard". Thanks for posting it, it allows me to send a digital picture of me at the faire.
The only thing wrong is your date listed for the shot. In 1989 I wore a black mandillion (english clothes). The outfit (red leather jerkin over a black underdoublet) I am wearing in the picture was not made for me until about 1994. In fact, in 1989 I had not met the lass who made the outfit in the picture.
